As a small nonprofit organization, MCAP could not do our work to end and prevent child abuse without our donors. So on Mondays in April – National Child Abuse Prevention Month – we are celebrating them! And hearing from them in their own words Why I Give To MCAP.
Our third installment of Why I Give To MCAP shines the spotlight on long-time donors Barbara and Michael Krancer, who last year became members of our new Superheroes Society. The Superheroes Society is a giving club for individuals who make a commitment to give MCAP a larger gift ($1,000, $2,500, or $5,000) per year for three consecutive years. This kind of longer-term commitment helps us to meet increasing demand for our services while also building our capacity and enabling us to plan for the future.
Barbara gave us some insight into the reasons they give to MCAP:
1. How did you first hear of MCAP?
We first learned about MCAP when Michael was a Board member on the Montgomery Bar Association. The activities of MCAP were reported in periodic briefings made to the Board.
2. What made you give your first donation to MCAP?
Once we learned about MCAP and its mission, we wanted to help ensure that neglected and abused children in Montgomery County received the benefit of legal representation. As litigators, we knew the importance of having an attorney committed to one’s cause, and we recognized that the only realistic way for that to happen in most cases was through the assistance of MCAP volunteer counsel.
3. What do you hope MCAP is able to accomplish with your support?
We are confident that MCAP will continue to attract top-quality attorneys to volunteer their time to assist neglected and abused children in Montgomery County court. While neither of us is actively practicing law at the moment, we hope that our contributions will provide the support needed to enable other attorneys to provide this crucial work to aid children in our community.
We are so grateful to Barbara and Michael for their commitment to MCAP and the children we serve, and for being early members of our Superheroes Society. Thank you for being this week’s #MondayMotivation, Barbara and Michael!
